Bristol Airport and Cancelled flights compensation

At 09:04 on 08/08 my 15:00 EasyJet flight from Pula to Bristol was cancelled due to issues with the Bristol runway. that's less than 6 hours before take off.

After a bit of faffing, I managed to book flights for me and my two sons from Zagreb to Stansted at 16:00, and for me the same day. After a 4-hour drive from Pula to Zagreb, we made it on the plane and back to the UK.

EasyJet has refunded the price of the flights. Where do i stand with the costs for extension of the Car Hire, travel costs to Zagreb airport and food? Is the airline liable here, as Bristol airport was closed? How do I seek compensation for the additional costs and who from?

Even if the delay isnt the airlines fault they are still responsible for your basic care such as food, transport between airports etc

Did Easyjet sort your alternate flights, or did they advise you to book yourself, or did you not speak to them at all?

You should not accept a refund. I hope you did not ask for it; in any case, write to them saying that you do not accept a refund and continue to exercise your right to re-routing.

They continue to be responsible for getting you from Pula to Bristol.

Fill in their online form for 'rerouting' (NOT 'compensation'). Claim for the costs of your journey to Zagreb; your new flights; costs of getting from Stansted to Bristol. From the total, deduct any refund received for your cancelled flight.

For food, you make a separate claim for 'care', although it might be more trouble than it is worth.
