Holiday insurance help
I would appreciate if you please advise on the below.
We currently have European Annual Travel Insurance.
- If we book flights for after the policy expiry date are we covered if for health issues etc reasons we had to cancel the current policy expires?
- If we are, would be covered if these flights are to the USA (Worldwide)?
Sorry if this is confusing.
Thank you

If you are considering a holiday in the USA the insurance won't cover you at all.

European cover wouldnt cover flights to the US. For travel to Europe You are covered for the duration of the policy, so if an insurable event happens during the period you are insured and you need to cancel the flights you could claim for that.

European cover is self explanatory.

Except for those policies where 'European' often also covers north African countries and the non-European part of Turkey.

Indeed, it varies across providers - however the point being it does not include North America, or any other nations not covered in the list of "European" countries.

And those who exclude seemingly random European countries. I have seen policies which exclude Spain and which exclude Cyprus.

This is quite common now. Some policies exclude Spain, the Canaries, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia if you don't choose that option.

I've never got my head around Spain being excluded from European cover - Cyprus perhaps due to the divided island since Turkey invaded 1974 ?
Here's Google's clarification .
Spain is typically excluded from basic European travel insurance policies because private medical costs for tourists in Spain have skyrocketed, causing insurers to split Europe into different risk tiers. While Spain is not banned or universally uninsurable, major providers like the Post Office, All Clear, and Insure & Go often separate European coverage into two categories: standard European destinations and higher-risk/higher-cost destinations (which include Spain, Cyprus, Malta, and Turkey)
Does explain things.
