Washer dryer advice

Hi, looking for some brand advice for a new washer dryer. Had a beko for 3 years and whilst it cleans well we’ve had lots of issues with it, 3/4 repairs already and it’s leaking again and damaging our new kitchen. Finished with it so need a better quality brand and machine. Budget used to be 400-500 but happy to pay more now for better quality and guarantee. Bosch has been advised.
Any recommendations and thoughts?

AEG/Bosch are good option, put pricy . Miele seem good, but very expensive. Samsung is a good middle of the road make.

Which? magazine have listings for washer-dryers.

Does your local library have a (online?) subscription?

I’m very happy with my Hotpoint. It was second on the Which? recommendations when I bought it in 2024 - the first was out of budget.

ETA the drying function in particular is a big improvement on my last one

We had a mid range Bosch washer/drier, it was fine at washing but poor at drying, really not helpful its dry capacity is half that of the washing like most washer driers. It lasted 5 before two quick fails in a row at which point decided to replace it. Didnt really have a room for a seperate drier but made room and its vastly better at drying and laundary is done in a quarter of the time

I think in general washer driers are less reliable than separate units.

Normally you would expect a mid range Bosch washing machine to last at least 5 years without the need for repair. Unless it was really getting a lot of use.

that’s good, and in the throw away, make everything as cheaply as possible world we live in these days, I think getting 5 years decent use out of an appliance is about par. I think the problem with that is the world we’re in now trying to understand what is actually a premium product and what isn’t is very difficult. Years ago we could be more assured that spending x amount more on x brand would be a worthwhile investment and last 15 years etc., but now with the amount of subsidiary companies within a group it’s hard to decipher what is actually premium, as you could have the same cheap rubbish made in the same place with different badges on two different machines, with a significant price difference due to marketing!

5 years with no repairs feels fantastic v 3/4 repairs in 3 years on our current beko.

You're exactly right ACD10, it really is impossible to know what you're getting nowadays. You've had trouble with a Beko, BridgetTheCat was happy with their Hotpoint - Beko own Hotpoint, it's anyone's guess where the two machines were made and by whom.

I'd just go for a sensible price and a long guarantee.

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

exactly and I’ve had a hot point dishwasher and it was the worst experience ever (awful machine awful customer care) .

It’s just big companies cutting cost to the mvp they can get away with whilst pushing price up through branding!

aeg or Bosch I think I’ll go for

can’t seem to find guarantee for more than 2 years. Sums up what the manufacturer thinks of their quality

If you buy a higher price Bosch, or a Siemens ( same company as Bosch but a bit more premium in theory ) then once the machine arrives, you can register it on their website for a free 5 year warranty. Often the online retailers do not make this very clear as they prefer to sell you one of their extended warranties, but normally you can find it in the details somewhere.

Prices are in the region of £700 upwards.

5 years with no repairs feels fantastic v 3/4 repairs in 3 years on our current beko.

As mentioned earlier, a stand alone washing machine will tend to have less problems and last longer than a washer dryer. A lot depends on how heavy the usage is. A single person might do the washing twice a week at most, whilst a family could be up to three times a day. A recent poster washed their towels after every single use !

thank you that’s really useful info about the warranty

yeah agreed about usage we are a family of 4, two very small children included, so it’s on every day 1-2 times up to 3-4 times at weekend so granted I expect we fit into the heavier usage category so I get that appliances will go busy earlier, but 3/4 repairs in less than 30 months is either shocking or really bad luck!!

also understand about washer dryer being more prone to faults, annoyingly we don’t have a utility room or garage so can’t have one of each, so happy to take the compromise and accept we won’t get as much longevity
