Lebara International SMS

I joined Lebara some time ago and have been very pleased with my experience. However, I have come across a concern about the charging of texts to international numbers when using an add-on to my plan. A relative in Holland was seriously ill in hospital. She was too ill to handle phone calls but a friend was sending out text messages from her and reading out any replies.

I hadn't realised that my plan only included a limited allowance of international calls, not text messages. I contacted customer service to query this and was given very helpful advice to include an add-on for this.

I looked at the charges and saw sending international SMS messages were charged at 6p each. I later discovered that this only covered texts up to 160 characters and longer texts were divided into sections and charged individually . Some of my texts had been charged at 18p.

I searched the terms and conditions - 24 pages of them and this does appear - actually on Page 14 of 24. I hadn't looked carefully enough at the large amount of information. So be warned if it could apply to you.

Youve been charged correctly per sms as a standard sms message is 160 characters. Always has been - this applies regardless of where you are sending it from or to. A good reminder now as most people on contracts are likely unaware given that almost all plans include unlimited texts.
