No refund yet

Hello, new here so please be gentle. I have turned to you for some help. My daughter booked a flight in January to Bangkok in March but it was cancelled last minute by the airline due to the conflict. Booked through Travel Up, got an email a week later from them saying we would be refunded but that was now 18 weeks ago. Their website said max 12 weeks. Paid for with PayPal so don’t seem to be able to do charge back (and too long now I guess). Please can you offer some guidance as loosing £450 is a lot and I don’t want to give them the satisfaction either.

Sadly this is where booking through the 3rd party booking agents go pear shaped, as you are down to their T/C.

While booking direct may be a bit dearer, you do not get these issues, or they are easy to sort, as you are just dealing with airline.

All you can do is keep chasing Travel Up

May be worth seeing if the airline will confirm if the refund was requested by Travel Up and whether it has been paid to them yet. At least then may know where the money is currently sat.

Chances are Travel Up may just say they are still waiting on the funds to be refunded from the airline so be best to see if you can find out if that is true or not.

While booking directly with the airline is sound advice, it isn't always that straightforward. I flew with Thai Airways some time ago (the OP's dauighter may or may not have used Thai Airways) and wasn't able to book direct. I tried a couple of different cards and Thai Airlways's payment system didn't accept any of them. I Googled it and turns out this is a common issue, with people solving it by booking via a third party. I used booking.com

Thankfully my flight didn't have any issues, just saying that booking directly with the airline isn't always possible.
