Grocery Budget for August for 2 Pensioners at £5 a day, £155.

DH took me to the local Aldi.

Milk £1.65 x 2, long life milk 65p, yoghurt 1kg £1.49, evap 52p x 2, eggs 99p, 75% off courgettes 34p and Jersey Royals 28p, Super 6 offer celery 49p and mushrooms 65p, lettuce 77p, vine tomatoes £1.46, wonkey grapes £1.37 and cherries 79p, bananas 88p, melon £1.49, nectarines 1kg £2.39, easy peelers £1.49, oranges £1.39.

£21.99 spent.

He will make the bread and kefir. I have cheese for the week, salmon for dinner tonight, and chicken portions to cook for tomorrow with leftovers for Monday, out of the freezer. There is a cooking bacon to use up this week.

Thank you all for anniversary wishes. We have had the best 2 days with all of our family together.

We are also being plagued by flies @PipneyJane . Read an article today and apparently it's because of lack of wasps due to heat! They attack / eat flies, aphids and other sects so we are seeing more of them because queens aren't managing to raise the workers. That's one theory anyway. Can't cook anything ine kitchen without the arriving to find out what's cooking!

2 more spends to declare both in Aldi

One shop was £12.93 and the other for £26.85 so £39.78 to add to signature. Pleased with that considering I feel like I am feeding the five thousand at the moment!

Thank you as always @JingsMyBucket for running the thread. l would like my normal budget for August. Tesco has invited me to another Clubcard challenge where you have 6 weeks to buy selected products up to a certain monetary value and receive extra Clubcard points in return. This challenge kicks of on Monday so l am delaying a big shop until then.

In the meanwhile l had to go to asda today because we had run out of milk, butter and squash and l needed new potatoes for todays dinner l also brought cream cheese, grapes and bananas total spent £7.73

Asda £6.22 4 for £5 on frozen & some huge bakery pancakes - also had a reward coupon for a free pkt of always so picked those up worth checking the app as even if you don’t use them as a freebie it’s worth getting and donating to the instore food bank collection.

First spends of the month, £50.11 for my Sainsbugs delivery yesterday, including 30p for custard creams to bring the total to over £50.00, so that I didn't have to pay a £7.50 delivery fee on top of my monthly delivery pass.

£3.59 at Savers, cleaning spray x 2 and steel scourers.

£19.65 at M&S, battered haddock and braising steak, both of which will do two meals. Greek yogurt x 2 and fancy crisps because you've got to have a little treat 😊

Happy August everyone. This one is going to be TIGHT!

I came in under last month, but having started the month away from home I have come back tonight and looked at my budget. Had a lovely weekend but the spending needs to be bought back under control.

The budget will have some help from a good deal of husband's food being provided by work for 10 days this month. I need to be mindful of calories and carbs, but I can eat more simply by myself, so I've decided on a budget of…

Plan for the week:

Breakfasts: bircher muesli with plums (free from my neighbour's tree).

Lunches: salads or sourdough toast with fish/eggs/cheese

Dinners:

Mon: Cheesy pasta with broccoli and peas

Tue: butternut squash and bean burritos

Wednesday: Chana Dahl and rice

Thursday: pasta arrabiata

Friday: fish, chips and mushy peas

Saturday: creamy lemon chicken and new potatoes (Pinch of Nom)

Sunday: chicken and potatoes with carrots and gravy.

So, here was the dilemma. I like Ocado and M/S products but not always the price, so I decided to go to Lidl’s and get the shopping for the rest of the month and the remainder delivered from Ocado. I am determined to keep under the £200 budget this month.

I used my Ocado shopping app as a guide to check the price and make sure I didn’t forget anything. Needless to say there were a few extra items added that were in the bargain department 🤭

YS chicken Kiev for tonight £1.12, Ys bridge rolls 49p XXL cashews £3.79 and the spring onions were only 49p. Forgot the Greek yogurt’s
In addition eggs, smoked streaky, gnocchi, biscuits, mayo, prawn crackers, tortilla chips, mascarpone, Boursin wannabe, cheddar, pate, soy sauce, Dijon, teabags, chicken gravy granules and wok noodles.
Total 42.47

I had ordered from Amazon 48 wet flash mops for £12.50, don’t know if that is a good price, seemed fair to me as I make one last on 3 floor visits by spraying the cloth with flash spray separately. Will definitely last me the rest of the year.

I made a quick meal on Saturday to use up some mushrooms and added a tin of tomatoes, garlic, chilli flakes, frozen spinach and penne. Made enough for today, the Kiev will have to be eaten tonight so pasta tomorrow.

I also cooked a joint of pork in the slow cooker on Saturday to shred, with chopped apples, onions, carrots and sage. We had that yesterday in sub rolls and salad. I have portioned up 5 further meals in the freezer, bargain.

Hopefully this is the last day of 🔥 today for a while.

We went out to a NT location today. Lots of 'free' fun using their 'Summer of Play' equipment and then we walked one of their trails - the longest one. Lovely through quiet, cool, shady woodland, but I regretted choosing it when we had to navigate crop fields, and then great expanses of harvested corn fields 🫤in the midday sun 🌞🫤🥵 We did see some donkeys in a field though 🥰

On the way back home, I picked up 4 pints of milk, a tub of olive spread and some yoghurt pots from Leedle. A total of £4.29 spent, and I have adjusted my siggie figgie.

I've only just started to think about August's budget! Last week just about broke me; with one thing straight after another all week & weekend, I hardly had time to think, never mind go food shopping! So there are now a few gaps in the store cupboard. I probably won't get down to the city to do the non-perishables shop until later on this week, but we have enough to be going on with for a few days. So I'll stick to

for August, though it's a complete guess - DS3 is back in town! He's not actually living here, but has turned up for dinner on 4 evenings out of 5 so far… so I'm officially feeding 3 adults, with 3 different medically-necessary diets, but possibly 4 half the time, plus occasional family guests, but 2 of us away for about a week towards the end of the month - eeek! Still not sure whether I'm coming or going…
