Car hire - DCC issue

Hello!

I rented a car yesterday from Malaga through ClickRent. The overall experience at the rental desk was fine and we have the car. However, I had to pay a €2,000 deposit - well I say pay, but I believe it's just a hold on my credit card rather than a payment at this stage.

I noticed on my credit card app today that the amount showing in GBP was quite a bit higher than I was expecting so checked the contract they emailed to me and can now see they've converted it to GBP at the point of sale via Dynamic Currency Conversion. This is something I would have expressly declined had I been offered the choice as I have an exchange fee free card (being a good MSE deciple!). The e-receipt even goes as far to say that I was offered the choice and chose to convert to sterling which is a flat out lie!

I've emailed the company to request this is corrected, but I'm not sure if/when they will respond and what their response will be. A google search also says I should notify my card issuer - but going onto the NatWest site says I need to wait until the charge moves from pending to final. Surely better to tell them in advance so they can correct it before it actually beomes final?

At this stage, I'm also wondering if it actually matters as I will hopefully never get charged. Assuming that's the case, would I be at any risk of exchange rate changes? I'm thinking no as the charge will simply fall away and I'll never actually pay anything.

But should they see fit to charge my anything, I guess I'll need to expressly confirm this should be in euros rather than sterling. Perhaps when I return the car I can insist they cancel the charge and make a new hold in Euros instead.

Any thoughts?

If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...
