Why can DVLA not make V5 digital like VED.
So that you do not have to wait for a physical copy to drop through letter box before you can do many things.
Sat waiting for mine to come back after plate put on retention & unable to pick up new car as no V5.

They normally come through within a couple of days.
Of course, I doubt this change of car came as a surprise to you, so you could have transferred the vanity plate off a bit earlier.0 -

Less than a week I know last time I did it was less than a week., but change has gone a lot quicker than expected. Car was already with dealer. Could have had it next day. Removing plate could not have been done any sooner. Due to other issues.
Just seems daft that we are relying on RM, when that could all be done online. Same as when changing car that you get conformation you are no longer owner & same for new owner & VED payment. Which can all be done online & confirmed within minutes.
So is there a need to generate a paper V5 & waste paper & postage?

Any change to software functionality or systems has a cost.

Some dealers will do the part ex on a "promise" of the latest V5 to follow.

Should be even easier, as a simple change of reg.

When we changed cars dealer put private reg on new car as soon as it was removed from existing car and we took delivery of new car.
Never asked about V5 , which took 2 weeks to arrive.
We assumed they obtained a V5 themselves.
