Detailed DVLA Guidance for UK Drivers with Sleep Apnoea
Don't confuse the severity of the condition with the severity of the effects. You could have really bad OSA and not suffer any effects yourself, but your partner might suffer from them.
As for "Excessive Sleepiness", this is tested using the Epworth scale. The OP as a patient of a Sleep Clinic will be familiar with this as they will usually have to fill in a test at every visit.
You can have a go yourself.
Epworth Sleepiness Scale | Asthma + Lung UK
13-15 is moderate and 16-24 is severe.
So you can have mild, moderate or severe OSA but don't test as excessive on the Epworth Scale. This means you can carry on driving and do not have to inform DVLA.
But you must stop driving if you have OSA and test severe on the Epworth Scale. If after three months it is not controlled, ie your Epworth score remains servere, you must then notify DVLA.
