Most items which are letter-sized you can still use your own stamps and don't have to buy an ebay label, but it varies between categories somewhat.

Much preferred using my own stamps - just for convenience and to use up my collection.

May help some people it's surprising with no face currency that people struggle to add the correct postage.

Below Current prices as of 7th April 2026

The £2.20 stamp shows an announcement date of 2023?

Yep, andt it'surprising howw many people still use them. sending items. And the price today is £3.60 and a different colour. These charts also online are just left. Maybe it's because a lot of £2.20 are very much unused and in circulation. I must admit I prefer to do my own label than go through the price guide of stamps especially when they have no face value. Only on selected stamps.

A £2.20 stamp would still be OK to use as long as the additional extra postage is added.

Yes, but a high percentage just use the stamps they have and don't make up the difference because they don't see a face value on the stamps they used to have a price. But Royal Mail makes a fair bit from stamps used over the sending rate. Because people aren't sure it's enough and often pay more than is required. Win win for Royal Mail.

I was referring to the one I mentioned earlier which clearly states £2.20 which would incur a penalty charge if used for a higher rate postage. I agree though that a stamps that just says say 1st or 2nd would still be valid for the service stated regardless of when the stamp was bought and regardless of original price. Some of my picture stamps that say 1st or 2nd I’m using date to the 1980s/1990s when stamps were considerably cheaper and I did routinely buy several hundred pounds worth.

Yes, I used to buy sheets, and today you would probably be triple for what I paid back then. I can see new rates coming with the 2nd class every other working day. How much mail will Royal Mail be sitting on, causing future backlogs? We are paying more for a substandard service.
