This method worked for me, thus enabling me to log in to BoS and open a new 8% Monthly Saver (no other active BoS accounts).

I don't think they are the only ones. First Direct famously seem to have an elephantine memory, and countless of the Fintechs will only ever allow you to open one overarching account, and sometimes only ever allow one account of a type (e.g. a cash ISA) with them.
