I have been stuck on a 3 year contract with his company now - only 18 months in. I pay a ridiculous amount of money for 8GB of data, unlimited texts and calls from UK. All for circa £27 per month. Last month they claim I went 443MB over my data cap and charge - I believe I had previously put a cap on the account to prevent this having had the unfortunate experience before! £44.30 (plus vat) for 443 MB! I have now spent over 9 minutes on 3 separate occasions (3 x 30min plus) trying to get an explanation but when the first line of defence puts me through to ' the network' I then have to wit ages for a response.

Has anybody ever raised a dispute for these punitive charges or contacted a regulator? They tell me terminating the contract before the 18 months is up will be £500 + VAT!

Have you checked the cap is still in place?

Unfortunately, all these prices and terms will have been in the contract that you agreed to and signed.

What caused you to sign up to an 8GB contract for £27 per month in the first place. That is really high even for a pay monthly tarrif, let alone a 3 year contract!

Was there any kind of cash incentive, new phone included or suchlike to justify the initial price?

    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

This is a business-to-business contract (consumer airtime contracts are capped at 2 years) so the OP was acting as a business when the contract was signed.

These contracts are not covered by normal consumer law since businesses are assumed to be carrying out their own due diligence and don't need that level of protection.

    Still a crappy deal.
