Thanks for this - I had no idea. However I assume that although they are not accessing this information from Experian that it is still used in the same way as the other CRAs to calculate my credit score. In which case why is my Experian credit score so much lower than the other 2 reference agencies ? Is the answer that I need to contact Experian and get a fuller report from them and check they haven't got anything wrong ? Or is it that Experian places more emphasis on different criteria in their calculations ?0 -
Just came across new AMEX card at BMI (I previously had their Mastercard) - didn't think changing to AMEX was a great move for them, but to make it a bit easier, they're offering 0% on balance transfers for 12 months (3% fee)....but the good bit is you'll also get 20,000 miles to use with BMI as a bonus. That's enough for a return flight in Europe as well as the balance transfer. Not bad I thought.0

Does anyone know of any UK credit cards that will allow a balance transfer from an Irish Credit Card, € zone to £ zone so to speak? I cannot find any who will do it.0

I am trying to find a balance transfer deal that won't screw me on the fee! MBNA have just informed me that they have recently changed how the 3% fee is paid off. It used to be that the fee was added to the 0% balance transfer or would be paid off first and you would, therefore not pay interest on it . However, now the cheapest debt has to be paid off first and the 3% fee would be charged interest until the 0% balance transfer is paid off. The section on this subject on MSE suggests that fees are usually paid off first. Any ideas on where to go.....?0

I've addressed your question above (Please see #437 p.22) Perhaps you missed it.
Remember credit reference agencies are there to provide the credit history, which is then factored into the score, but the actual methodology (and the process of scoring itself) is done by their clients, the lenders. None of us - including the CRAs - knows what criteria are used by individual companies. Lenders do not disclose this information.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

*How to obtain credit reports* sticky.).
Additional services like credit scores are a nice little earner for the credit reference agencies, but of little practical value to credit card users. IMO, the disparity between your two scores underlines the pointlessness of them. The chances are, the lenders' scores, had we access to them, would all be different from each other as well!People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

AFAIK, UK card companies are only able to accept balance transfers in £pounds sterling from British providers.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Why not get a UK card that does a Super Balance Transfer (e.g. Virgin (part of MBNA), Abbey or Egg) and get the money put into your (UK) current account. Then use this money to pay your Irish credit card.0
