Today, the Halley launched a new balance transfer deal, which offers 0% on BTW for 15 months. A 3% handling fee applies.

    Hi

Just recently taken advantage of the Halifax 0% for 21 months on a balance transfer, so decided to transfer the balance of my RBS Platinum card. When I spoke to Halifax they said my card was invalid, which seems strange as I only used it 2weeks ago. It's not like I am trying to transfer thousands, just under £550. Halifax told me to speak to RBS so I did and they said there is no problem with my card and there should be no problem. So called halifax again and still the same issue - card invalid. Anybody else had this problem....?

I have seen something like that with halifax. Basically the banks recognise the number groups to detect who owns the card. Whats has happened is one of them doesn't know about the other as they may have a new set of numbers.
You need to upgrade past the call centre person to a manager to investigate properly.

I came across this thread trying to find out about Barclaycard. I was going to BT approx 3k from one card to Barclaycard to pay off card and have some left over to pay off bill. I know that potentially this could go pear shaped.

    I noticed
that I have the option to transfer balance to current account with apr of 4.9% until July 2015. I thought that might be better as I would have to BT next year. I tried apr calculator and got interest as £165 which seems wrong. I think that in my hayfever induced stupor I have entered something wrong.

I was keen to get it sorted today but I am thinking I should wait until I have a clearer head. Would you say that £165 seems wrong?

I recently took up a 0% to Jan 2015 BT on my Barclaycard World card. Expected to see subsequent 0% interest on my statement by not only having the monthly minimum paid off but all my monthly purchases as well. Only to discover my expectation was wrong because I am now charged standard interest on whatever I now spend on my card irrespective if I pay that amount off in full each month!

I now found this term on the back of my invite letter to quote- "Until you repay your transferred balance in full, you will incur interest on all your purchases at your standard purchase rate of 16.9%. This applied even if you repay your monthly spend in full each month". So only other way to avoid the extra interest charge is to Stop using my card anymore until Jan 2015!

As I have not come across this before in any forum or advice sites- Is this a new catch/ trick?:(

Yes. I couldn't use NatWest's online system to BT to a card elsewhere. They could do it after I phoned and had them do it via a human. There are known valid ranges and sometimes banks can be slow to update them, particularly in their automated systems. You may need to ask the humans to override the check or if they can't do that, to get their system updated to recognise the new range of valid numbers.

It's completely standard practice and you should expect that it will apply to every card. The no interest on purchases only applies when the balance is paid off in full or if there is also a 0% for purchases deal that is running for all or part of the same time.

As you wrote, this means that you cannot use a BT card for spending without paying interest on the spending. This is standard advice for those who are stoozing or using BTs.

Sometimes the BT fee is also subject to interest. It is at NatWest. You can save interest with them by making a payment that covers the amount of the fee.
  • Hi.. I am new to this forum

I have just tried to apply for the RBS Platinum credit card.. and I have been declined. Which is fine i accept the fact that you win some you lose some. My current credit card 0% on purchases needs to be balance transferred soon as the 0% is nearly up and i have a balance on there.

I don't earn enough for the barclaycards so don't think its even worth trying to get one.

Just wondering what i should try next without harming my credit score!

    Hope someone can help!

First thing is to contact RBS and ask them:

    1. if it was a computer decided application, to have a human review it.
    2. after that, to tell you the main reasons for the decline decision. Not simply computer said no, but which facts produced that result.

Each of those is your right from any lender for any credit application. However, given it being RBS this will probably take too long to be useful immediately.

You can try the Barclayard quotation search. There are also the free Noddle and MSE checks that make a quotation search on your real credit report and use that information to get a better idea of which lenders might be wiling to accept you.

It maybe with you or the cards you used! I have done BT with MBNA, AMEX. I was not charged interests on the months purchases when I paid off the month's spend in full whilst taken up BT offer with them. In fact I have since been in touch with Which? and the person agreed it wasn't normal!
