I have around £2000 owed on a barclaycard (15.9%apr) and a £500 owed on a virgin card(on 0% bt deal) but these are both pretty much at their limits. I am about to graduate and start a full time job, so i was wondering what would be the best way to begin to clear this debt? Not sure if i should be applying for yet more credit as i have recently opened a catalogue account (but owe nothing on it), and have a few smaller debts. Any help would be much appreciated!
If you are 0% on the Virgin card, just make sure that you set this to minimum payment for the time being and just go all out to pay off the Barclaycard as thats the one you're loosing money on right now.0 -
Hi All,
Was looking for a bit of advice. I currently have two credit cards both with about £4000 each on them (£8000 total debt). I am looking to move one of the cards to a lower % card, preferably 0%. I have had a few issues in the past with being accepted for cards but I generally have an OKish credit history. I earn £35000 a year and now own my own house with my partner.
I am finding it hard for cards to take the whole £4000 balance? Any ideas how I can reduce my monthly interest payments.
I am also getting married next year and hope to have paid these debts off with the money we get from presents (wishful thinking but its a very big wedding!)
Thanks you in advance!:j0 -
Finally, whilst I thank you for your contribution, I just wonder whether you find you get positive responses from being rude to people who ask questions? Somehow I doubt it.
I don't suppose you got a great response when this happened:i was furious and told the guy so!
But in truth much of what you said was probably factually incorrect, and demonstrated a lack of understanding of what a credit application actually is, and how "credit scoring" works
I've simply pointed that out, perhaps with less tact than I could have.
For example, the name of the organisation providing finance is written in the agreement that you have to agree to when applying for credit, so I find it difficult to believe you when you sayi foudn nothing that indicated the two companies were related!
What were the two cards/accounts involved? Then we can check what the agreements state. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it and apoligise. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Not sure if Tesco are being naughty but via this site I applied for a 22 month interest free balance transfer. I got the card but DIDN'T GET THE BALANCE TRANSFER!!!!
I phoned up and someone said it had been overlooked but nearly three weeks on it still has not been done. I told them they could shove their card if there was no balance transfer. Grrrrrrrrrrr0 -
If it was in the terms that you agreed to, and you have proof, then simply do a balance transfer and if you're charged interest, complain and take it to the Ombudsman. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

You can do balance transfers at 0% interest at any time during the 22 months. Doesn't have to be done on application. Just do the transfer yourself now on the website0 -

Actually it is usually in the first 60 or 90 days only to qualify for the 0% deal.
But yes you are correct, it's not too late so get onto them again and if it hasn't been processed yet then do it yourself:)0 -
Thanks folks for the responses. I shall go online and do just that
