    Hi

I have been using 0% balance transfers for ages but found last night that I think I have missed a trick they have started using on these cards. First they introduced the BT fees to but now they are offering 0% with the fee but only if money is transferred within a limited period of opening the card.

I have a barclaycard at the moment which I was sure when I signed up for it said 12 months but nothing about for balances transferred within 60days. I have ready their website again and it does state this exactly on their website and inthe bt t&cs but last night they said it was only for 60 days - can they get away with this?

    thanks
    Gail

It's not uncommon for lenders to offer different terms and conditions to online applicants from those advertised by other means at one and the same time and to vary or withdraw offers without warning. Mine are always at it. What's more, the banks' staff are seldom up to speed with the changes.

I have this particular card but, irrespective of what's stated on this forum or anywhere else, it's the credit agreement you signed with Barclaycard which counts.

What's become of your credit card agreement? This may sound obvious but, whatever you do, make sure you retain a copy for your records. If you decide to apply online and "sign" electronically, save the file and, just as important, any subsequent changes. (Some lenders seem to love making changes ) If you cannot find the paperwork or didn't save/print it during the application, I would ask B'card for a copy. It's important to know what you've signed and you'll feel more confident tackling customer services with written confirmation to hand ;)

  • Hi. I need some info about Balance Transfer. I have a fair rating on my credit score (through Experian) due to being lousy with money many years ago. I make all my payments on time and have kept this constant for 2 years. I got a capital one card a few years ago and the interest is now a wopping 30%. I would like to transfer this balance (£500.00) and get this debt paid off and never have another credit card again - but i feel my credit rating will sting me. Please help
  • Try smile for a small credit card limit, they thought I sucked but still gave me a £500 cc at average interest which would be better then 30

Yes, credit files don't indicate that one of the loans is for your father, unfortunately. That will be viewed as your debt, as I'm sure you realise.

Do you bank with NatWest or the Royal Bank of Scotland? A 0% for 15 months BT card (Platinum or Classic) is available to existing bank account customers at the mo. (HSBC has a similar deal for current account holders, but customer service is not so good, IME)

If you're not eligible for the above, you'd get 0% until 1 November 2010 (as from today) with Egg [see #2587 above]

Alternatively, 12 months at 0% is available from the Post Office. There's a 2.98% BT fee.
Also, 5 months at 0% on new balance transfers requested in the month of your 1st and 2nd anniversary ;)

Please forgive my rudeness, I never thanked you for all your help. You have been very kind :)

I applied for the Post Office card and got rejected... oh boy!

    No apology necessary.

May I draw your attention to the one touch "Thanks" button in the bottom right-hand corner of each posting (when you're logged in, that is)?

This lets the OP know you've read their post. (It also saves you the trouble of posting a reply, when you're pushed for time ;))

Bad luck, but thanks for your feedback.
