Yup, there's a full list of cards that allow you transfer directly to your current account on the stoozing site (supported by MSE). Your best bet will be to apply for a card that isn't backed by MBNA - again, list of card issuers on the stoozing site.
Thank you very much for that, it was exactly what I was looking for!0 -

Things change over time. I wouldn't rely on anything you find on the website now and, regardless of what anyone tells you here, it's the Ts & Cs she signed (plus any subsequent variations) that count.
If she cannot find her paperwork, I'd contact Egg and request a copy. It's important to know exactly what she's signed up to.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Ask your mum to login to her Egg account and send a secure message asking them to confirm the exact date the 0% balance transfer ends. She'll get a reply in a day or two."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
Hi!
I recently did a balance transfer with Ulster Bank. The offer was 0% plus 2.9% handling charge until May 2010. I had a letter with this offer on and it was confirmed when I rang to do the transfer. I have just received my statement and they have charged me interest! Have rung them and am now awaiting a 3rd person to ring me back. Surely they can't change the goalposts as I would never have done the transfer in the first place if I was going to be charged interest. Any advice - much appreciated0 -

Have the letter which confirms the special terms of your BT to hand, when you answer the phone. (If you know the date/time and member(s) of staff involved when you requested your BT that all helps, but the contents of the letter should be sufficient.)
Let us know how you get on
Very best

I also had a repeat deal with Ulster Bank but be aware that they do charge interest on the Balance Transfer handling fee. It should only take 2 months of repayments to clear this interest and it shouldn't be a particularly large amount.0 -
Can anyone give me some advice please? We took out a Capital One 0% card last September to pay our daughter's college fees of £4000+. The deal runs till November 09 and the balance at the moment is just over £3000. We would like to transfer this balance to the Virgin deal which runs for 16 months but we aren't sure whether to do it now or wait until nearer the end of the Capital One deal, say in September or October. I know there is always the risk that Virgin would withdraw or change the current offer so perhaps we should do it sooner rather than later. What would you guys do? We have never done a balance transfer before so are feeling a bit anxious about getting the timing right.
Thanks

The Virgin offer has been 15 or 16 months over the past 2 years. Not impossible it'll be withdrawn, but pretty unlikely.
8 weeks before you need it is the time to apply, that gives you a safety margin incase you're turned down and need to find a plan B, so no need to panic just now.
Once accepted for a card, the BT can take up to 2 weeks in theory. I'd double check with Cap One the exact date that your 0% promotion ends and aim to clear it at least a week before this, i.e. initiate the BT 3 weeks before the promotion ends.
EDIT: wouldn't apply any earlier than this for the Virgin card because as it says in their summary boxThe introductory rate for balance transfers, cheque transactions and money transfers applies to transactions made within 60 days from the account opening date."A child of five could understand this.
