The previous tennants left owing the landlord money and, from the amount of letters we are still receiving for them, I guess they weren't the most credit worthy. Could this give a bad impression to creditors if the address has a bad rating?
No. Credit ratings assess people, not dwellings. If you share a financial product (eg. joint bank a/c) with someone else, then you are financially linked to them and their
affairs could have an effect on your own finances and your credit rating, but simply occupying the same house as someone with a poor credit history, past or present, has no effect whatsoever, so don't let this distract you from tackling the things that really matter.
For tips to improve your chances of acceptance, have a look at the *Credit Rating: how it works and how to improve it guide*, especially Martin's *Manage and Improve your credit score* article,to make sure no other factors, besides your recent move and change of occupation, are working against you.;)

I have applied for a Barclaycard recently as I would like to transfer the Halifax balance over to a new card. This has unfortunately been declined....
Which card would you recommend me applying for next?
To maximise the 0% period, 16 months is currently available to new customers from Virgin. There's a 2.98% handling charge.;)

Hi. In 2005 I used to have a MBNA 0% credit card which I paid off in full and cancelled before the end of the 0% period. I am now thinking about applying for a Virgin Card (apparently part of MBNA). Will my previous contract with MBNA affect my application with Virgin or should it be safe to go ahead with the application?
Thanks for your help.

Don't bother with Egg or anyone else for 0% transfers now - I've spent the last week trying to transfer some balances and despite having a pristine experian credit report I am being refused by all. Either the recession has got them on the run or they won't actually approve balance transfer applications becuase they making no money off them.
i dont know what to do now. my credit score is 999 but i would like another card and what has been said above, it sounds a bit worrying and i dont want to affect my rating too much.
do i bite the bullet and try or do i carry on as i am pay a little over the minimum payament and pay the interest. I dont know how i really got into this mess.Things will get better day by day.0 -
Hi All,
I might have missed it, but I think the Barclaycard OnePulse 0% link in Martins article is now dead.
They have this product out though, is it the same or have they added some sneaky extra charges?

Some lenders will not consider applications from former customers in the period following closure, but after three years you'll be fine.
Btw, MBNA has a reputation for regular, existing-customer/follow-on offers, once your balance is paid off in full, so a credit card issued by this lender (e.g. Alliance & Leicester, MBNA itself, Sony, Virgin) is well worth keeping in your deckPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Thank you Moggles. I am not sure whether Virgin need you to transfer your balance within a specific time (e.g. 60 days), but whenever companies state that the balance is to be transferred within the first 60 or so days, does that mean 'any amount' or is there usually a certain amount that those companies have in mind? So would an initial £100 do to comply with this requirement and then simply transfer teh rest when necessary later?

PS: I think I closed my MBNA card in 2006. Does that still sound okay for an application to Virgin?0 -

I have a Virgin Card and you can do as many transfers as you like at 0% in the first 60 days but after that any transfers revert to your normal non promotional rate. So an initial £100 and more later (if after 60 days) wouldn't work.0 -
I recently applied for a virgin credit card to balance transfer from my Tesco Credit Card (which is up to its limit and the interest is making it impossible to pay off). After applying online I had heard nothing for 10 days either by email or post so I rang their helpline and was told that because I had applied and got a 0% rate on an MBNA card 4 years ago I was not eligible for the Virgin offer. NB I was not trying to balance transfer from this card it has a zero balance.0

From a balance transfer point of view, this deal still offers 0% for 14 months.
There's a 2.9% fee.
That's not a recommendation, btw. Barclaycard has figured quite prominently on this thread recently and rarely for the right reasons.:rolleyes:People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
