Private water supply (spring)?

I am looking at a property this week that has its water supplied by a spring. Does anyone know much about private water supplies? Are the costs likely to be higher/lower than normal water supply?
I will be asking them about the spring/maintance/treatment etc, but wanted to see if there is anything else I should ask, or what anyones experiences of them are. My understanding is that the supply will need to be tested yearly (it is a commercial property), does anyone know what this is likely to cost?
Thanks in advance for any help,
JB

Hi there, cannot help you much because our "private" water supply is shared amongst the whole village and is managed by a holding company.
However, one suggestion I would make is that you find out exactly where your Intake is situated - is this on your land or on somebody else's? Could make a difference (1) when you need to do maintenance yourself and (2) if any agriculture operations are planned around the intake or catchment area.
Also, this sounds obvious but, try and find out how steady the spring runs, particularly whether there are seasonal fluctuations. Rather than talking to the seller or their agent (who will give you a sales pitch), find out if there are any neighbours also fed by spring and ask them for an honest opinion.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
