How do I disassociate my own credit report from my twin sister credit report?

We were born on the same day and share one common name. We both live together and I can’t get credit because I apply and the providers check my sister credit report who is in debt. I have no debt and it is frustrating.

Surely you have different first names though? So challenge the providers when they are not doing the checks properly.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

Are you sure that providers are definitely checking the wrong files as opposed to simply declining your applications, i.e. you've reviewed your own credit files, with no searches appearing there, and have seen evidence of the searches appearing on hers?

Have you tried adding a comment to the credit reports so that creditors might be aware that they are looking at 2 different people? Of course if they only look at your sister's they won't see the note on your file….

Alternative is applying for credit in person - such as going in to a shop to get a mobile phone contract or getting a store card when they are hyping a promotion in a shop. Banks probably will simply refer you to the online process but you might get your own bank to add a note to your account file to explain the issue. Of course much of the problem will be the automation which likely won't be able to get beyond this simple issue. Unless you can get some difference on your address - like adding a flat number to your room or something??

Don't add any comments or NOC's (notice of corrections) that blocks all automated credit decisions as it needs to be reviewed by a human, and subsequently ignored.

As @elsien said, surely you've got different forenames which will result in separate credit files, with the lender searching your credit file rather than your sister. I'd echo what @eskbanker said and check whether the credit searches show on your credit file.

There are many reasons why a lender may refuse to loan to you, it could even be what they call a thin credit file whereby you don't have any previous credit agreements for a lender to check how you dealt with that credit.

The searches I applied for are showing up in my sister credit report.

Our forenames are different. My forename is one of my sister middle names.

Do you have her first name as your middle name as well? If so I can see why the credit providers might be "confused" and think you're the same person.

Do you have any options to not live with her, to disassociate yourself from the address, or more drastically would a deed poll name change be something you'd consider? Perhaps adding another second name? Or Double barrelling your surname.

Edit: Have you asked the provider of your bank account to see if they'll give you a card? I presume you have a separate bank account from your sister?

isn't a review by a human a good thing? or are you thinking that by going into the human queue it in fact just gets binned?

Do you have a credit file of your own, i.e. have some providers (e.g. your current account bank, mobile phone companies, etc) previously succeeded in identifying you correctly?
