Declarable Modifiation or not ?

I own a plain white bog standard Ford Mondeo Estate.

Would having vinyl decals applied and the original ford alloys refurbished a different colour be a "modification" ?

AI did this to it and quite like it.

I know can just ring and ask but was told its a last resort as it all goes on your "file" even if just a query.

Check your policy but I do know some insurers count cosmetic changes as modifications because it can potentially increase the theft risk.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

    "…increase the theft risk".

    Really?

Suspect that if the insurer has claims experience that shows an increased risk when a car has go-faster stripes applied then the premium will go up.

    Yes it’s declarable.

The last thing you want is to make a claim and for the insurance company to void your policy, or at least only pay a percentage, because you modified the car and didn't notify them.

I would expect "go faster" stripes to be regarded as a modification. In any case ask the company.

You will have told the insurer that you have more money than sense, so they may see you as an easy target for premium increases.

    Yes, absolutely.

    Even ignoring theft risk…

    1. Increased cost of repair. You want those stickers on after the repair? They replace an alloy, you want it painted to match?

    2. Owner demographic. They have stats that show somebody who modifies their car, even "just cosmetically", is more likely to have a claim than somebody who has no issue with driving a plain one.

100% yes to both, but why would you do that to the car?

    It does look hideous.

each to their own - everyone has their own preferences/taste - maybe the OP has a commercial reason for the changes

I’m sure there are things in your life that you find visually appealing that the OP would find hideous

But yes - would need declaring
