And probably fashion a nice hat out of tin foil.

They're all educated people and fairly switched on, and they both have smart meters, but I've yet to persuade either household onto a smart tariff.
Which Heat Pump Tariff Saves The Most Money?
My eyes were opened by the compelling arguments in this Heat Geek video (if you can ignore the flapping hands). The film is a couple of years old, and what the expert claimed to be the 'best tariff' (near the end) was withdrawn around the time the film was released, but the arguments against some ToU tariffs that are available gave me food for thought.I'm not being lazy ... I'm just in energy-saving mode.
If you're asked to post a photo of your meter Meter Configuration Tables v2.0.xlsx0 -
I've always said that Cosy was a poor heat-pump tariff as they really need to run constantly, but …
… combine it with a home battery of the right size to bridge the gaps and it would work.

You would struggle to put a smart meter inside a faraday cage because you don't have access to the back. But a metal mesh around the front and sides would inhibit its ability to send and receive signals in those directions. So it might render a smart meter "dumb", particularly if the WAN signal was weak in the first place. I wonder if the people who buy those things realise that, and if that is the real reason for their purchase?

My money says there will be more people buying them in an attempt to mask the WAN signal and avoid actual readings being sent to the supplier, than those concerned about the effects of EMF.🤔
I'm thinking about cannabis grow criminals and the like wanting to mask abnormally high consumption, but then again they most likely bypass the meter anyway!!!0 -
Not forgetting with more usage information from smart meters energy companies can plan for usage more accurately when hedging with that data. That should lead to cheaper energy.
Your phone knows when you use the kettle, have a shower, and much much more (everything you talk about and buy). It is far more invasive than a smart meter can ever be but that's considered essential tech these days so the nay sayers that worry about their data in one area generally don't care about it in another area. Hypocrisy in full effect.
I do believe there is a small percentage gaining the system with old analog meters with solar that turns the meter back and other reasons but the majority have just been taken in by the misinformation and then the algorithm feeding them more and more until they believe everything that has come up on their feeds.
Stepping back and analysing things properly is a dying art these days with the reliance on AI for a quick, but ultimately not fact checked, answer to everything.

Having spent two days last week on a very large site with over 100 electricity meters serving various retail and storage units I was amazed how many were the original ones fitted over 50 years ago.
Made me wonder why they have never been exchanged as there were also plenty of modern meters, both single and three phase.0
