Trace debt recovery never received original parking charge notices from UKPS
Hi,
Looking for some advice. I’ve had two separate parking charges from UKPS, both passed to Trace Debt Recovery, and in both cases I never received any original notice the first I heard of either was Trace’s letters, weeks after the actual parking dates. The first was of £170 and second one they added another £170 due to a separate charge
I checked the ANPR timestamps for both and my stay was under 5 minutes each time.
I emailed UKPS to dispute the first charge. I got back an automated response just saying I’d missed the appeal deadline, without addressing anything I’d actually raised.
I then sent a letter by post to Trace disputing that first charge and asking them to put things on hold while it’s sorted out. Since then, I’ve received another letter from Trace, this time about a completely different charge, which I also never had any prior notice of from UKPS. So now I’ve got two separate charges building up, and no original notice for either.
I’ve seen mixed opinions on here about whether writing back to these companies is even worth it, or if it just wastes time or gives them more to work with.
Any help is appreciated as I don’t think the way it was done is fair as I never received the letters at all

Others with more experience will be along in due course to advise, but for now you should look at the Newbies thread at the top of the 'Parking tickets…' page. Read from the top and pay particular attention to Post 4.

And check that the address on the VC5 for your vehicle is up to date, as that's the most common reason for not receiving notifications…

Its your responsibility to update both promptly after a move, your legal responsibility
All the police, councils , DART etc can do is obtain the keeper details once within 6 months and write to that address
You cannot turn back the clock, so ensure that UKPS DPO has the correct address for the service of papers , plus anyone else sending letters to the old address
Wait for the Letter of Claim or Money Claim at the current address and deal with each one then

👆👆 Definitely. You do not want any court claim (which might well follow) going to a former address. The road to serious angst. Write to both UKPS and Trace to update your address details.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Thank you for the advice its very useful , I will do that. is it worth for me to ask for a SAR when updating with the DPO since my old address mentioned they didn’t receive anything

Normally, no , its usually better to know nothing, or possibly do so if it got as far as your local civil court
Plausible deniability
But do make sure that you update your V5c details ASAP, because you can be fined by magistrates up to £1000 for not doing so, on behalf of the DVLA. ( not knowing is no defence. , assuming that the DVLA did both when you updated your licence is no defence either. )

"
update went to ask at my old address they said they didn’t receive anything for me"They are lying. They did.
But as advised, simply email both UKPS and Trace to update your address details, insisting that they must ERASE the old address.
Correct wording is in the LBC reply recommended in post 2 of the NEWBIES thread. Don't use the whole thing as you don't have a LBC of course.
I am constantly amazed that so many people fail to update their car logbooks when they move. Your car's registered address is clearly separate and nothing to do with your own driving licence.
Having said that, I blame the DVLA for failing to make this clear when they return updated driving licences to individuals.
