It was never your garden, you never owned the house so it's a difficult one but see what you mean.

Sounds like something your OH may never get over so maybe best to look for something else.

I think we might be the same unless substantial reduced to make up for the loss of land.

People can be funny about recent history. They don't care much about things well in the past, but where there's a feeling of having 'just missed' something, they can't let the idea go.

When developers built an estate behind individual houses in our town, they lost 20 mile views in the blink of an eye. The existing houses, with names like Green Vista and Dartmoor View, went from being 'highly desirable' to 'difficult to sell' with equal speed. Several owners wanted to leave, PDQ, and that was understandable.

That was about 10 years ago. I don't think the same 'blight' would apply now. Alongside the older houses, some posh 'Eco Homes' have been built. They don't have brilliant views and their gardens are what new build gardens tend to be. In the new context, the older houses have the advantage of longer, wider gardens and anyway, fewer people remember how that small part of town used to be.

When I look at listing for some of the new builds round here, the estate agent often claims "large rear garden at 10m by 5m" - That is smaller than my front garden, so got to laugh..

In answer to the original question: yes, it would definitely put me off buying - as would a used car business next door.
And if it puts enough people off now - it will likely put off anyone buying it from you in future.

If it had the original garden and no petrol station next door the price point would be different.

Just noticed when i looked at the link thats a few miles from where i live….. Id be more worried about the massive industrial park there building just on the other side of the village. the amount of traffic that passes through there is already high.

Just looked at the link- it's not just that some of the garden has been taken, it's most of it and really obvious too.

I don't think it's that great a house tbh. I can't fully tell from the pictures, but it looks like the front door opens opens straight into the house and one of the reception rooms would be difficult to furnish due it's shape and the positioning of the doors

I believe it is called free market capitalism. Are you so sure that if you had been living there 5 years ago and a developer offered you £ X00,000, to take 75% of the garden, then you would not have snatched their hand off ?

oh yuk… the remaining land is totally boxed in by the new house and driveway and has lost its direct boundary to the open land behind.

Free market capitalism it may be but this is long bargepole territory for me…
