Multiple cancelled flights
We have just arrived back in the uk 72h after our originally booked flight should have landed.
Flight 1 was cancelled for technical reasons the evening before it should have flown. All passengers were transferred to the evening flight making about 2 /3 of the load.
Flight 2 boarded, scheduled 6.45, and we were then advised of a technical underwing problem due to the heat. After about 2.5h we were advised that portable AC was not resolving the problem quickly enough. As the crew were running out of time we we deplaned andwere eventually transferred to a hotel, reaching our room at12.15am. We were advised that the plane would depart 10am the following morning.
Flight 2a boarded and taxied adjacent to the runway when an avionics problem was announced. After 3h we were told the fuel needed to be topped up. We were again deplaned and transferred to a hotel after a laborious time in a very hot terminal. Our party included a 14 month old baby, and were only offered a flight 2 days later as were a couple with an 8 month old baby. Yet one group of 10 adults were given flights the following day.
Questions
Does this count as 2 or 3 delayed flights?
Should each be claimed for separately?
Is it best to file a separate claim for expenses incurred as it was not possible to use the electronic vouchers sent via email?
An email was sent yesterday when we took off offering £300 per person but had to be accepted yesterday.

It's definitely at least 2 flights, whether it is 3 depends on whether flight 2 was cancelled and flight 2a is a new flight, or if flight 2 was delayed and 2a is just flight 2 rescheduled. Compensation will also depend on who you flew with, and whether the delay was due to extraordinary circumstances.
I would push for 3 flights, but claim your expenses separately if you can so they don't get held up with the inevitable fight with the airline over the compensation.

First things first, which airline was involved, in terms of whether the UK (or EU) 261 regulations apply at all?
