Kiwi flight check in notifications issue
My partner booked return flights for Manchester - Pisa through Kiwi. The return flight had a layover in Eindhoven, but he never received any notifications that he needed to check in for the Eindhoven - Manchester flight. When we got off the plane from Pisa to Eindhoven, we were advised we missed the deadline and had to pay 110 euro to check in. The support desk advised it's a common problem that happens, where Kiwi do not forward on the notifications for check in to the purchaser of the flight tickets. Is there anything we can do to claim this money back?

Nope. Sorry. Always book direct.

Kiwi and similar sites are only cheap if you know exactly what you are getting in to, especially when it is an indirect flight, If you don't know the downsides it is far better to avoid them.

Absolutely bonkers, there are 16 direct flights a week between the two places at the moment.

I really don't know why people use Kiwi and similar sites. If you're self arranging, book direct with the airline, don't have a third party involved, it makes life more difficult.

Sort by price, comes at the top as it's cheapest. Cheapest initially, then when problems start it's getting expensive.
Anyway, Kiwi aside, you haven't checked in, likely RyanAir, so you pay their fees. Nothing to claim back from anyone. You can only avoid similar issues happening again.

Surely when checking in at the start of the return journey, it should have been evident that the boarding passes only covered the first flight, without needing the agent to point this out?

The passenger has to take some responsibility here. Whilst Kiwi sold you the flights they only act as the agent in arranging the flight booking. It is up to the passenger to familiarise themselves with airline regulations.
It sounds like they sold you two single flights on two separate bookings rather than a thru ticket. I can see where there's potential for confusion but as stated above the check in process with the airline would have made it clear it was only for Pisa - Eindhoven, as would the boarding pass.
Be grateful this was the only issue you had. If the Pisa - Eindhoven had been significantly delayed and you missed the onward flight then you could have been stranded on Eindhoven, the airline would have no responsibility to get you to Manchester!

99% sure this was a “self-connection” booking on two separate airline booking references and this would have been displayed (as a warning) when originally book on Kiwi. Gamble taken, gamble lost.

Ryanair the only airline to offer both flights.
