If it was fulfilled by Amzon it would go back to Amzon.

OP just says it's a Chinese seller 3rd part one.
Amazon will pay postage costs but OP hasn't said to Scotland or China.
If Amazon pay for postage to Scotland and no refund then they may as well just not bother sending it back and just buy another one and pay a plumber to install it.
But we are waiting for the OP to clarify things.

Amazon A_Z Guarantee

The link you posted confirms that the Amazon A-Z guarantee does not apply.
The OP begins: 'I bought a bathroom basin from Amazon (third party seller apparently) last October.'
Amazon says: 'the A-Z Guarantee is eligible if the delivery date of your order is 90 days or less'

Alderbank that makes things interesting for the OP then.
OP will have to pay for a new basin or carry on they are for now then.

They still have consumer rights against the seller. Those rights are statutory and can't be taken away.
But after 90 days they are out of time to use Amazon's A-Z guarantee.
Chargeback is also time-bound in a similar way, 120 days (for most goods and services)

Both A-Z and chargeback would require proof that it has been received back by the seller.
If that seller is in China they almost certainly won't be able to obtain that proof.0
