No trusted people as trustees

Hi, our son has autism and we've been advised to make a will in trust so that when we pass he won't lose his benefits by inheritting. I don't know if there is an answer to this but we don't have 2 people we trust for trustees, the people we do know and trust are in their 70s,so who would take over if they passed? If anyone has been in this situation or have any suggestions I'd appreciate them, tia

You can get professional trustees. Mencap has this: https://www.mencap.org.uk/advice-and-support/wills-and-trusts-service

    – I don’t know if your son would need to have a learning disability as well as his autism to qualify for their Support but they may be able to advise you either way. Otherwise, you could contact the national autism society?

Local authority can become corporate trustee in some circumstances. You would have to ask them what their criteria is.

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

If you are considering setting up a trust as part of your wills, please make sure you use a STEP qualified solicitor to draft the wills. They have expertise in trusts and will be able to advise you of a lot of the pitfalls.
