VENT: Reviews from stupid people

If you shop at a certain upmarket supermarket, you get a request to review some of the items that you have bought + a request to fill in an online review about your overall experience, pretty much after EVERY visit.

A couple of times I reviewed the products, but soon realised if you say something like ' it was OK, but not as nice as the Tesco one' they refuse to publish it.

Yeah I've had reviews on Amazon be refused. I didn't swear or anything like that in them, I just said what I thought - that the product was awful. They wouldn't publish it.

Speaking of Amazon, I was looking for some sealant last night as a trip to Screwfix is a fair walk & I can't be bothered with busy traffic.

Saw the reviews on some - 1* simply because it came without a nozzle.

Bit harsh I thought, considering you're clearly rating the delivery there & not the product as you haven't tried it. It's Amazon so the returns is straight forward, just send it back, put it down to shhhh happens & get a new one with nozzle. It's not rocket science.

But nope, people just want to moan. Which is rich coming from me but such is life.

my pet hate with reviews is when suppliers/sellers/manufacturers send you an email "we sent you [insert product name] 32 nanoseconds ago, can you review it. My usual response is "haven't even taken it out of the box yet, come back in a year's time and ask me if it still works and do I like it" Not received one follow up yet.

Not really relevant to "stupid" reviews, but I take reviews on Amazon from, "Vine Customer Review of Free Product" which are usually 90% 5 stars and glowing, with a very large barrel of salt! The remainder 4 stars.

My partner works at an insurance company. She has seen

1* Reviews but the text talks about how wonderful everything was.

1* Reviews that start Insurance company were great but (event that led to the claim) shouldn't have happened.

Reviews about a clearly different company such as "Best Ice Cream Ever", " Tills wouldn't accept my Euros"

The honest answer is that people are stupid

I suspect a good number of the less well constructed reviews are not down to the reviewer's being stupid but the supplier requesting a review either too early or on something that simply does not warrant a review. Two examples from me:

- ordered a pad of A4 paper from an online retailer and they requested me to review the product. Truly, what can anyone say?

- ordered a sofa and received a request for a review before I returned home from the store. Again, it is a daft question asked too early in the process so the answer was equally daft.

lol oh no the early 2000 feelings came rushing, you can tell us if the paper is awfully thin? If ink transfers through, if the lines are too close to each other, if the glue looks decent... So many things we looked for 😂!! Love me some laptop that can fail any minute without a backup lol

I was looking to see if any devices running Batocera were on eBay. Saw one seller with 96% & wondered what the issue was from some people.

Before I even got to the negatives I see the positives but one instantly jumps out at me. Can you guess which one it is?
