Ebay Offer Being Withdrawn

This morning I got a message from Ebay with an offer on a BIN item, saying that I had 23 hours to accept it. Five minutes later a second message arrived saying 'The offer you received has been retracted'.

I'm quite surprised that this is permitted. Part of me is tempted to see what happens if I click to accept the offer on the first message within 23 hours to see whether it goes through or not. Not very wise I'm sure as if it did I could well end up with a disgruntled buyer and a spurious NAD claim.

Are retracted offers commonplace?

It's an option to the buyer given by ebay. There's a 'Retract Offer' button.

OK thanks - I've never made an offer so have not seen the retract offer button. I nearly accepted it straight away, but thought I'd wait as I had the rest of the day to make a decision …

When an offer has been made could someone else buy it (at full price) or is the sale held while the buyer considers whether to accept the offer not?

Yes. The offer is an offer for you (and any other named accounts that it's been made to) but the item remains on sale at the non-offer price.

Note that if the offer has been made to several potential buyers, anyone of those could buy it at the offer price.

You're talking about two different things. One is a buyer's best offer (although the buyer can make a second and third offer if the seller rejects or it times out) the other is a seller offer (which goes to all interested buyers). Both are secret and do not effect the listing sale price for other buyers. I often find items sell for full price both after receiving a buyer offer and after sending a seller offer.

Why would a buyer end up with a disgruntled buyer and a spurious NAD claim?
