cancel your contract with the provider?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.2 -
Or if it is PAYG, just remove the SIM and discard it.

If you're moving to a new provider text STAC to 75075 from the mobile you want to cancel. Your network will reply within 60 seconds with your STAC code and information about any early termination charges that apply. Giving the STAC code to your new provider terminates the old contract without the usual 30 days notice and you don't have to talk to your old provider.

…..as long as you give this code to your new network - they'll supply a new number.

Are you getting a new mobile number?
The only advantage of getting a STAC from your old network is that it negates the need to give notice on the contract. You give it to your new network.
If no new number then just cancel the old contract, it will kill the old number.

You want to close your 1p mobile account and it will, effectively disconnect/cancel the SIM
May be wise to also cancel any bank DD or credit card mandate authority at the same time.

Just log in to your account and cancel the auto top up, then destroy the sim or delete the esim. They'll probably keep your account dormant for a while and eventually delete it and give the number to someone else.

Just turn off auto renew in the 1p app
