Transfer out a Chip cash ISA - needs access to my bank account transactions

Sometime ago I opened a Chip cash ISA, its a smart cash isa but don't know if that's what I opened but think it may have been converted. I added some money to it but did not give access to my current account. It says it is needed to make the most of chip not that it is required.

I want to transfer this to another provider. In the account details it does not give the account number and sort code for the transfer. It looks like it will not give this information unless I link my current account and allow them to view all transactions thereon.

This means I cannot transfer the ISA out. I think I funded the account by transferring to a savings account then into the ISA. I think I've had that savings account for a long time.

I don't have a Chip ISA any longer as I transferred it out months ago. I don't think you need to link a current account to find your Chip ISA number. Try this:

If you're looking for your Chip Cash ISA account number, you can usually find it in the app:

    1. Open the Chip app.
    2. Go to the Savings tab.
    3. Select your Cash ISA.
    4. Tap Details in the top-right corner.
    5. Your account number and sort code should be displayed there.

If you don't see Details, another method is:

    1. Open your Cash ISA.
    2. Tap Add money.
    3. Choose the bank transfer/manual transfer option.
    4. The account number and sort code used to fund your ISA should be shown.

Another option in the App is to go to 'Profile' > 'Account statements' > 'Cash ISA' > 'View statement' and then look at the top right of the statement that is opened to see Account Number and Sort Code.

Thanks, but there are no statements appearing.

I got a reply from chip and apparently the new smart ISAs don't have a sort code/account number just a roll number. I can't see anywhere it says that on their site but it's not easy to find things there.

I tried this but the destination (Virgin) says that Chip doesn't accept electronic ISA transfer requests and it needs to be a paper form.

Of course the form has a sort code and a account/Roll number. If I get round to it I'll try that with a blank sort code and see what happens.

Tried it from Yorkshire B.S. and that says it can't be done electronically either. I have a feeling my ISA is going to be closed to accepting more input by the time this gets done.

You shouldn't have any problems with just a roll number and blank sort/code/account number.

Even if the transfer can't be done electronically, a paper form request should work just fine.
