What are my options please.

Broadly:

• You can let them fit a smart meter
• They can get a charge you for the costs of fitting a smart meter outside your property (likely to be a four figure sum)
• You can ask to be disconnected from mains water and have your meter removed.

Which do you prefer?

I refer you to the Water Industry Act 1991 as a starting point - you can do your own research from there.

Note that water meters will not be generating significant electromagnetic fields on an ongoing basis. Unlike smart electricity meters they are battery powered so there is a strong incentive to only transmit when absolutely necessary.

The meter is not your property, so YW are free to replace the meter as they see fit.

The only thing missing from that site is a picture of his tinfoil hat. Unless your home has zero electronic equipment, any additional level from a smart meter would be negligible.

Have they sent you another letter of some sort as the one you posted isn't threatening?

The transmitted power of a smart water meter using LoRaWAN is 25 milliwatts. That is tiny, i.e., super low-power. Transmissions typically occur every eight hours for milliseconds. Compared with other radio signals around us, this is almost nothing and most unlikely to be a threat to health.

They are obviously going to emit electromagnetic radiation otherwise nobody would be able to get the reading from them, but it's going to be minimal compared to all the mobile phones, tablets, WiFi routers etc that are in your house and all the ones surrounding it, or the hundreds of mobile phones that surround you when you go shopping etc.
