Thanks so much for the above. Very useful in trying to know what to expect. I think it must be the fan blowing the cold air out that is helping which means that aircon otherwise doesn't flow very effectively through doors.

Correct, you are relying on the fan pushing the cold air around. Cooler air doesn't flow into adjacent rooms by itself - in fact, the opposite is the case, where warmer air from adjacent rooms will try and equalise the temperature by moving from higher to lower temperature areas.

The vanes on the air con units (the motorised flap on the front of the unit) can normally be adjusted both horizontally and vertically to control the air flow out of the unit - so there is some degree of adjustment you can make once installed. Increasing the fan speed can help to push cold air out of the room, but that also increases noise and makes it less comfortable in the room itself.

But if you block sources of external heat (ie close windows, close curtains), open internal doors and run the air con consistently throughout the day, then you will find that it does keep the other rooms cooler as well. Just takes more planning and user involvement to get the most from it - that's the compromise of not having it installed in all rooms.

Thanks for starting this post OP, as it's been a great experiment for me.

And to wrap this up, only the bedroom aircon is on.

Fan is not on. Lounge aircon is not on.

It is the bedroom one that's cooling the hallway, as I was stood outside the bathroom, and could feel the cool air.

Fan setting on aircon was set to 1 of [Quiet/1/2/3/4/5]

Just to clear up confusion here, as I'm not sure I was very clear mentioning fan speeds earlier.

My separate fan was not on. Only the aircon was on, and it was the fan setting of that, that I had on 1.

But yes, the separate fan would have greatly contributed to other areas being a lot colder, on previous days.

Hi, think I'm going to go with the 5.1kw unit in the downstairs living room and hope it cools the hallway as well and a 2.5kw in our bedroom.
