How is my PC not good enough to handle YouTube shorts?
Or Facebook videos for that matter, but normal YT videos are ok.
YT Shorts are horrendous for this. I've clicked on one right now to view it but it's a bit jittery. I accidentally scroll down to the next one, realise what I've done & scroll back. Nothing loads. I scroll to the 2nd video again which freezes immediately but plays the audio from the previous video.
Facebook videos always judder. They're never smooth.
Play them on my phone - no problem.
Phone is WiFi, PC is wired.
If it's a graphics issue then my PC is old, graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 460 1GB. I'd have thought it'd still be powerful enough to play a few videos though?

Could you post a link to one of the 'jittery' YouTube videos?

Looks like your video card (16 years old now) simply doesn't have the hardware to support modern codecs.

I normally use Firefox for all my internet browsing. About 2 months ago, YT videos didn't play correctly on Firefox, I don't remember the exact problem. Anyway they play fine on MS Edge. So I switch to MS Edge just for the videos but for my daily internet I continue to use Firefox.
I shouldn't have a video card issue, well not one due to age because my laptop is 2 years old.

I don't need to (don't mean that in a rude manner because….) it happens on ALL shorts without fail. ALL Facebook videos without fail.
Possibly. I'll give it a go. I use Firefox but from time to time I find that things seem to be pushed the way of Chrome.
You think that's what it boils down to?
I'm responding to posts as I go so this is interesting you mention Firefox after my response to a previous poster.

If you're using a profile based browser this could be being caused by a profile or an extension issue.
If you're using Firefox, try Troubleshoot mode:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-modeIf you're using Google Chrome then by using Incognito mode by default will disable any extensions. This can be overruled though.
if the issue goes away in Troubleshooting mode/Incognito mode your problem is being caused by an extension you have installed.
If you create a new browser profile and the issue clears up in the new profile (but remained without extensions) then it was a profile issue. You should be able to get your bookmarks/history/bars back out of the old profile.
If the issue remains without extensions and a new profile you can switch to another browser. If the issue then clears up its an issue with the first browser.
The other likely caused is a missing graphics driver, as modern browsers use hardware acceleration where available and this will require an installed driver.

- Hardware Decoding: Limited to older codecs like MPEG-2, VC-1, and basic H.264. It cannot hardware-decode modern 4K or 8K streams. [1, 2, 3]
- Video Playback Resolution: Tops out at 1080p for most modern streaming platforms (like YouTube or Netflix) before experiencing extreme stutter or maxing out your CPU.
Modern Restrictions: It does not support hardware encoding for formats like H.265 (HEVC), making it highly inefficient for rendering modern high-resolution or high-bitrate videos.
Though, as aforementioned, worth trying another Browser.

I have found that the DuckDuckGo browser solved my YouTube problems

Yes, I do. The browser suggestions may make a minor improvement but ultimately it's just an old video card.
A h264ify browser extension may help, it forces Youtube to play an older video codec but it's not something I've tried.
