I didn't think it would sound like a threat - you've looked into removing the number but you're worried that doing so using the product the landlord has asked for (i.e "something off Amazon") will make an even worse mess, so wanted to make sure he was absolutely sure before you go ahead.

I also second the suggestions to put a neat number plate over the painted number.

OP, if it was me, I'd be asking the landlord what you can do to make good without trying to do something which you don't have a scooby will sort it or may well make things worse. To me -

Option 1 would be to leave as is - not sure why they hate it. Obviously they don't need a reason.

Option 2 may be the sign suggestion, sounds good to me if done properly

Option 3 might be re-painting the bricks a brick colour. Got to be the easiest option.

Option 1. LL said to OP it needs removing.

Option 2. No report back from OP about this suggestion.

Option 3. LL's will go berserk if OP did this, his words.

Lot of info here on cleaning brickwork. If you know the brick material and the spray paint type, this company should be able to advise. Maybe send them the pic. A pressure washer would probably be needed.

1 The OP didn't say that they'd gone back to the landlord to check after admitting they didn't know how to get rid of the grafitti.

    2. As above

    3. The landlord said that they'd go berserk if they painted the brick column, didn't say they would if they painted it to look like bricks again.

    4. Are you forum police?

Grump chap, I have had one quote so far, and that was for £200!!! (At present, I cannot afford to go to the Dentist, let alone pay out £200 to remove some paint.)

Also, by coincidence, I saw a "builder" recently who say the paintwork/brickwork and said that £200 was way over the top…

Sapindus, I'm afraid I have been told to remove it, and get something to get rid of it, and so i don't think they will accept "painting over it". I have bought something now, (following a £200 quote from someone), so I shall have to have a think about all aspects. Thank you.

Sapindus, I thought I had replied to this comment, but I can't find it now!

Anyway, since they told me to remove it, and order something to get it done, I don't think they will approve of me painting over it. Also, I don't know (even if I knew how to do it properly) whether it would "work" in terms of covering the paint completely, partially or making it look worse!

Yes, I have tried the Council. Of course, they weren't open over the weekend, (and their website shows them as closing at 14.00 hrs,) but I have finally spoken to someone in "the respective department" who couldn't help. Apparently, it could be another area dealing with this specific type of "cleansing", but they only take e-mails… ).

In the interim of all of this, which has become more stressful as time goes on, I have ordered a Graffiti Remover called "Zep", I believe, recommended by a builder, but not in stock in the store.

(I also had my first quote from a "professional" of £200…. which I can ill-afford, so that won't be an option.)

    Thank you for your time.

If you are going to apply a remover on this I would use a Stencil brush to help apply the remover into the crevices on the brickworks face, it will be a task that needs done several times before you see a improvement.

Do you have any nail varnish remover?
