Movicol? It's a human laxative but believe some vets do recommend it in very small doses. There's also Lactulose, a different form of laxative but further from the spelling but more commonly prescribed for dogs. Liquid Paraffin is the third and covers the remaining major form of laxative.

Thanks @MyRealNameToo I phoned the vets surgery, and the receptionist checked their records, and it was Lactulose that had been recommended. We will buy some from another pharmacy.

We have been trying to give Barney some of the product the vet gave us this morning, but he isn't co-operating.

Whatta dog, he doesn't make things easy.

Do not mention it is for a dog as the pharmacist cannot sell you human medication for an animal.

@sheramber Yes, that's what she told us, even though the vet recommended it.

Our cat has Lactulose twice daily - agree with the others, don't tell the pharmacist it's not for a human

    An update

We have been mixing the VetPro with cheese to tempt him to take it, but decided the cheese might not be helping and lately have been mixing it with Tuna. It's very messy, but he is taking the medication.

It seems to be helping a little, but he isn't eating much at present, probably due to the heat.

Would it be alright to give a slight dose of Lactulose along with the VetPro, or would it be too much?

    Thanks for advice.

Vetpro is just a food supplements. It’s not a medication so I can’t see any issues with taking it with lactulose as well.

with the caveat that I’m not Vet so if you’re not sure, check with them.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

Thanks @elsien We'll see how he goes. He is slightly better, but wondered whether Lactulose would help a little more.
