Dumb question probably but................I want to listen to something from youtube. Problem is son's PC and laptop don't appear to have speaker facility. How can I check there is sound there before I go and buy a set of headphones or speakers to use with it please?
Thanks and sorry if this is stupid question

On the back of the pc but nothing on laptop. Doesn't work with headphones I already have.0

which laptop is it? have you turned the volume up?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I'm fairly sure that any laptop in the last 5 years would have had this capability - as albertross says if there is a port then either the volume is down, there are missing drivers, there is a dodgy connection in the port or your headphones don't work.0

It's an Advent. It is about 3 years old. I'm going to look for the manual - son has probably thrown it out, he's so laid back it's not true!
Failing that shall along to computer shop tomorrow and ask them to look at it. Possibly headphones we have aren't right ones
. Haven't a clue!
Thanks everyone for your help :T .0 -
click on the speaker icon bottom right, and check it isn't muted. If there is no headphone jack, how are you plugging them in?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Plugging them into PC not laptop. Have both - confusing eh? :rolleyes:0 -
Defragmented laptop over night as it had never been done.
Seems as though sound card hasn't been loaded or it is damaged. Spent ages looking online to see if I can download one for free but not had a lot of luck. Local computer shop said they could do it for £30.
As regards PC there aren't any speaker icons on the bottom right so I am assuming it doesn't have sound card either

Look in Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device manager, Sound and tell us what you are looking for. Don't pay them £30. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
