E14 to E27 converter.
We have bought a new outside light.
Our previous one had a dawn to dusk bulb which worked well for years.
I would like a bulb similar to this for the light.
The trouble is a I can't find a dawn to dusk bulb like that uses an E14 socket.
I have found these converters, and there seems to be many of them for different prices.
Are these safe to use and should they be ok for the dusk to dawn to work? Are there any brands to avoid?

They are definitely safe, but will make the bulb longer/higher that, I think, won't be a problem with your light fitting.
And they are so primitive, that I don't see how any brand can be less reliable than other.

Exactly this, they are ugly and in things like table or reading lights they can be problems fitting them inside lampshades/holders. Probably not an issue in the fitting pictured.

I'd go with 'probably safe' and stick with a manufacturer you can have some confidence in.
Some shoddy manufacturer could swap the connections round so the 'tip' of the E14 end is connected to the 'ring' of the E27 end - meaning the part which is easier to touch is 'live'. Also possible they could use wires which are so thin they get hot, or use plastic which quickly breaks down/goes brittle when exposed to heat or UV.
I'm not suggesting the manufacturer/supplier the OP has linked to would do this… just that even the simplest mains fittings can be dangerous if the manufacturer is careless.

That adaptor link you gave includes dimensions. So you can make sure it will screw down into your lamps fitting. The collar of the adaptor looks quite wide.

There are E14 dawn to dusk bulbs available on the likes of Amazon. Most I've seen are more "candle" style than the bigger E27 one the OP linked to, but does it need to be that shape?
The adapter would increase the height of the bulb significantly, and look pretty ugly IMO!

Many thanks for all your replies, and I am sorry that I did not get back to answer quickly.
On the subject of safety I have noted Section62's words of caution and will heed them when selecting.
I am concerned that the added height will spoil the look of the light. I have wondered whether it would look better in black but at the moment cant find one. (thinking painting them may hep?)
The bulb doesn't have to be a bulbous one like the one I linked too, I'd be happy with a candle shape. It's more that type I would like (the filaments). If I had a candle one like the one in there I would be ok with it, but I cant find one. victor2 can. you help? I don't like the standard candle bulb, with the large chunk of plastic at the base. I think that will look worse than the added white of the extension.
Once again thanks for your suggestions and comments

I see your problem. If a white base really concerns you, what about going over it with a black marker pen?

Thanks - I think I'll do something as this isn't huge money, and if we don't like what we have tried, we can try an alternative.

If the light is controlled by an internal light switch, what about changing that for a smart switch controlled by an app? That way you can programme them to come on and off when you want & no need to swap the lamp.

Thanks - hadn't thought of that, although the dusk to dawn seemed better than altering the times as the year progresses. I'll take a look
