UC Confirming 'who lives with you'
Hi Gurus
I think I know the answer but want a sense check.
Standard UC review 'confirm details'.
My young daughter lives with me (my UC claim), standard + 1 child.
Housing - no rent/owned & mortgage completed.
We also have my elderly mother living with us, I am declared as carer (live-in) with carers element.
Do I declare my mother as 'people who live with you', or not, (seperate household finances) ?
Thank you

No you don't need to declare your mother, she is a separate household.

Many thanks @sammyjammy , as I thought. Much appreciated for confirming.

Although in this case it will not affect their UC claim (as they own their own property and are not claiming the housing element), I think they should be declared as non-dependants as they could potentially affect housing entitlement if the OP were renting and claiming the housing element of UC
She is not part of the benefit unit, but she is part of the household if living at the address.

Thanks @NedS.
We both (Mum and I) own the property we live in, as Joint Tennants 50/50 (not tennants in common) of many years. There is no requirement for renting/housing element now, or in the future.
It is my understanding that, as you have described, if we were renting/in receipt of housing element then Mum would need to be declared as a non-dependant, which in turn would have effect on housing element.
Thus I hope I have interpreted it correctly, in that I have not declared Mum on my claim in this case, as
no rent/housing element (seperate benefit unit/household finances).

Your understanding is correct. Although it does not affect your UC claim, I just wanted to clarify for other folks who may read this thread and think they do not need to declare their relatives living with them either.
Hence why UC ask you to declare everyone who lives at the property, then they can determine if it will affect the claim or not.

Thanks @NedS & @sammyjammy , much appreciated both.

from what i understand, non dependants only affect UC if you are claiming the housing element, i.e. rent.
