After a lot of backwards and forwards today, the insurance company have agreed to carry out the forensic investigation.
Thank you for all of the advice, now to wait for the report!

The standard report is fairly basic… look for where the most damage is and assume thats the where the fire started. What's there? A load of wires? Then it's an electrical fire. They can commission more serious reports but thats not done routinely unless there is thought of a criminal act or there has been significant injury.
Even if you have elected to have a courtesy car, the traditional type wouldnt provide one in the event of a total loss as its provided by the garage without an explicit charge, in theory the labour rate is slightly higher but of cause with a total loss there is no labour.
Thats not how Motor insurance works, they would pay it out and then recover their outlay from the party they hold at fault. Insurers have large teams that do nothing other than recovery work.
