Smoked one evening in lounge- smell?

Re cleaning, if it is just one episode of smoking then it's mainly the fabrics that will need attention. Soft furnishings, carpets, curtains etc, this should be fairly easily solve able with a bit of work and not permanent.
Many many years ago we knew someone who bought a house from a family of very heavy smokers, really heavy with no work or cleaning undertaken on the house for decades- property was bought at auction as it failed to sell when placed on open market. The photos we saw looked like they had painted the whole house brown, ceilings, fittings, lights, woodwork it was all brown. They stripped absolutely everything from the house , but ended up having to even change out things like electrical points ,ceiling roses and eventually even some of the floorboards. Yet my mother, who smoked for most of her life used to get cross at me for 'imagining' I could smell smoke on her skin when she visited (obviously she was not allowed to smoke anywhere in my house)

It will go in time, and faster with assistance.
First - ventilated ventilate ventilate.
Anything that can be hung outside, do so. Anything that can be easily washed, ditto. Everything else, 'Fabreeze' it, and vacuum.
It should clear. Plug in an air freshener to disguise the remaining traces until it fully disappears over a few weeks, which it should. There should be no need for professional attention.
But, wow, what a mate. Footie, perchance?! 😬

Don't forget that smell sticks to the walls too. I like to wipe the walls every once in a while to get rid of lingering smell, dust and spider webs I use one of the flat floor sweeper that has a sponge bottom and make it semi wet, and with a light fast stroke I go around the room. If your paint is in a poor state. Or the wall is peeling off, don't do it.

I would tend to agree. The suggestion that an expensive deep clean would be necessary, just because one person smoked a few ciggies in the flat one evening, seems a bit OTT.

I bought a blanket at a car boot sale and when I got it home I realised it absolutely reeked of strong perfume. A week on the washing line did the trick. I left it out in all weathers but it's good as new now.

….rather depends on the nature of the "cigarettes"…..
