Smoked one evening in lounge- smell?

So mate smoked one evening in my flat. Windows open with fan, went in there but still smells few hours later. I guess stop this? Will it smell permanently now? How do I get rid of smell? Got sofa and chair and curtains, they absorb the smell?

Get some fabric deodorizer spray (e.g. febreeze) and spray soft furnishings because as you say, they absorb the smell.

It’s unlikely to disappear any time soon, as above you can mask it but the only way of removing any smell is to deep clean everything in the room.

    There

There will be local providers of cleaning services who will do this - sofas/soft furnishings/carpets would be cleaned in situ, curtains may be able to be taken down and cleaned off site.

Usually combined with a full room clean of everything else.

Get personal recommendations of companies. It will not be cheap.

It's interesting that incense burners don't linger for long but a stinky cigarette does. I get rid of cooking smell with incense, they don't leave a burning smell, and it fades away after a day or two.

A good friend wouldn't put you in that situation.

I guess covers/throws on chairs and sofas then washed would help. Can't believe I just allowed smoking one evening. I'll try fabreeze and shake n vac, maybe hire a steam cleaner

You would need to use an upholstery cleaning machine not a steam cleaner, but the problem is it will not just be on the surface, it will be in the padding and structure as well. Most smokers do not even smoke in their own homes any more, it would be crazy as a non-smoker to allow this.

Hang your curtains on a washing line for a few days when the weather is dry and windy should help.

I assume you gave permission for your friend to smoke in the house but didn't appreciate how pervasive the smell can be? Now that you know, it will be important to assert boundaries next time someone asks if they can smoke.

I once loaned my car to a "friend" on the understanding that they did not smoke in the car while they made the journey they needed it for - suffice it to say, we are no longer friends.

That sounds like the voice of experience. I have done similar when deodorizing a room in which someone had raised two ducklings (don't ask)

As a follower of some car cleaning channels on youtube, the recommended tool for a really rank smoker's car seems to be an ozone generator. So if all else fails...
