How long stationary before council parking ticket can be issued?

Hello,

Hope you can help me.

I stopped in a roadside parking bay yesterday to quickly drop some items into a local charity shop. On returning to my car a council traffic warden had issued a ticket listing that I'd parked from 17.24 to 17.25.

Can anyone confirm if the council are correct in issuing a ticket for such a short period of time?

Many thanks

Since we concentrate on parking charge notices from unregulated private parking companies, you would be better off taking this over to our friends on https://ftla.uk (the forum started to replace Pepipoo), as they are the experts on council and police issues.
You will need register before reading the FAQs, then posting both sides of your PCN with your query.

It would depend on the offence and the council, you said you were in a roadside parking bay, so I can only guess it was for a specific type of vehicle or had a loading restriction at the time you stopped there or... you were between 2 bays?

    Thanks for the reply.

The bay that I stopped in was actually a disabled bay, but I only did so because there were six additional disabled bays and all were empty and because I was only briefly unloading I knew that I would not be stopping a disabled person from parking. I would never park in a disabled bay if it was the only one available.

I know that I'm in the wrong but I'm still surprised that the ticket was given with such a short duration

"… because I was only briefly unloading I knew that I would not be stopping a disabled person from parking…"

That seems a bit of a stretch.

Do you mean it was probably unlikely rather than "know"?

If you'd seen the area at that time it was obvious that six disabled drivers would not have turned up within the one minute where I was inside the charity shop but yes I do take your point 🙂

While I think issuing a ticket for being there 1 minute is a bit picky I would suggest you simply pay the fine and move on with things. I know that disabled spots are a great temptation at times. I was hoping it was going to be a case of not having paid for parking and then you might have said you'd gone into the shop to get change or some such.
