Booking Travelodge over uk train wifi?

-Is it safe to use a laptop to book a travelodge in uk by using a uk train operators free wifi?- The risk is acceptable for most people as the info is encrypted and it's very unlikely the access point has been meddled with.

Why is it so important to book while on a moving service?

Can you not make some time to book the accommodation while in a fixed location? That would, at least, rule out any concerns about the service losing signal at the exact moment you are confirming a booking and then unsure whether you are booked or not booked.

From a security point of view it is fine

From the risk of a train going into a tunnel halfway through your booking - not so much

Why are you sending bank details for a hotel booking? As far as I am aware Travelodge only accepts payment via some form of card, not Direct Debit.

Presumably they consider your debit/credit card number as "bank details"… card numbers are higher risk than acc/sc anyway given it opens up millions of retailers as potential sources to use the card numbers whereas acc/sc only opens up the opportunity to setup a DD for which the scope is vastly smaller and the protections much higher

Only if you see a HTTPS and that you don't get asked by the train operator to "install our cert". If they are asking that, they are sniffing the traffic so its then no longer secure.

And also if you do actually connect to the train Wi-Fi and not to someone with a hotspot in the back of the carriage pretending to be the train Wi-Fi
