Octopus energy bill dispute

I still don't know if this mater is even relevant to the complaint, because without checking if the day reading was incrementing overnight you don't know if you were paying too much or too little, but if the night readings just were not going up at all then there was clearly a fault.

Octopus have a "closing reading" of 77124.3 from 29 April.
My meter reading from 29 April was 73864. This is the number that EDF say they have agreed with Octopus.
I have no idea why the Octopus closing reading is far higher than the EDF opening reading.

It's because it's estimated; the industry workflows haven't yet supplied Octopus with the agreed reading. When they do receive your agreed reading they'll issue a revised final bill.
In your position I'd be more concerned about why they've got the wrong opening reading on your account. Were you receiving monthly bills from Octopus while you were a customer? Are the readings on those correct?

There is a 3rd party that work the final readings, so often are not the same as actual readingsd. So you need to complain to EDF why their opening reading is lower that Octopus closing reading

I disagree. EDF don't seem to have done anything wrong here.
Octopus have issued an estimated bill despite having actual readings. Estimates are always wrong, these estimates are "just" more wrong than many.
OP need to complain to Octopus that hey haven't used their actual readings.
It would also be good to know if the OP was receiving monthly bills from Octopus, as it sounds like they weren't. That should have been their first clue that something was wrong and perhaps this could have been fixed a year ago.

Yes that is also concerning. I have been consistently supplying Octopus with accurate readings and they have ignored them for unknown reasons. I should have challenged them earlier, but didn't. I still have all the photos, but I don't know if its too late to change the March 2025 reading.

This likely all started by supplying a single reading for a two register meter when you first moved in…
Odds are they had the exit reading from the departing customer which is why their estimate of that opening reading is higher.
Now they are using an estimate for a closing reading, probably again because of supplying just one reading to your new supplier…

I did not supply a single reading at any time. I gave the day and night figures as displayed on the unit.

Difficult to know that since you constantly refer to just a single reading in your posts.
So EDF have the 'correct' night reading showing on your account there, does Octopus show that same night reading now or have they got a different number?
Also it would help if we knew if the day reading increments overnight or not…
You should be interested in that as you may be overpaying for your night use…

Apologies for asking again but you might've overlooked my previous question.
Were Octopus sending you monthly bills while you were a customer? Submitting a reading will often result in a bill being generated if you have traditional (non-smart) meters.
A separate question: in a previous thread you couldn't have a meter replacement because your meter backboard needed replacing. Did your freeholder ever do this?
And a third question: did you have a supplier at this property before Octopus? What meter reading did they close their account on?
