Temp accommodation
hello I really hope someone can help me. I moved into temp accommodation from the council due to homelessness, I have tried to get internet, phone, and tv at the property but have been told it’s not available we can’t have anything this was with 4 different companies. These properties were previously bungalows but the owners have made one massive house 4 and 4a separate gardens, driveways, front doors, ect now number 4 have service and number 6 has so I know it’s possible to get but obviously I can’t request for open reach to install a line as they don’t take requests from public, and the providers are saying it’s point blank not available.i have children who need to do homework and one doing gcse and definitely needs access to net.. is there a way around this? Thanks again

Have you considered 5G mobile broadband? If you can get a good 5G signal from Three then you can get home broadband from them with no requirement for lines into the property. I have it myself and it works great - but I do have very good reception.

Have the individual properties been property registered as addresses with the Royal Mail?

I'd also suggest mobile broadband, if you get decent coverage. It has the advantage that you can take it with you if/when you move into permanent accommodation.
My son's had two years at university sharing a mobile broadband connection with the rest of his student flat. At one time there were six of them all using the same "unlimited" Lebata SIM (on the Three network). It would get a bit slow at busy times but was still good enough.

Mobile broadband. I've had Three's mobile broadband since 2023, where I used to live according to their map had average coverage, where I now live according to their map has no coverage, broadband is slightly less good here but more than adequate for streaming and everything else I use it for. A smart TV or a Roku or similar box added to your telly will give you decent streaming tv over the broadband.

trying to be as diplomatic as possible is this a ‘proper’ rental property and not some sort of ‘dodgy’ landlord conversion , and has it been correctly registered with the local authority for council tax etc and has that information filtered down to the Royal Mail ?, you can look at the Royal Mail website yourself to see if your address appears and if it does is it exactly the same as you know it (so not similar , so as an example , No4 shows but there is no No.4 because , it was converted to 4A and 4B , but 4A and 4B are not showing on the website, if your case is something like that then the developer hasn’t registered correctly or the information hasn’t worked its way through the system from the council to RM , basically if the address isn’t correct on the RM website, the providers that use RM data (and that’s all of them ) won’t be able to ‘find’ your address so can’t offer service .

If it is just one person in the household, my suggestion is Scancom three 1000GB data SIM/ unlimited data SIM with your smartphone (assuming dual SIM) and hotspot.
No idea about TV subscription though…

Given they mention their children, no, it's not just one.

A mobile phone hotspot may help short term although the 5G mobile broadband options would be preferable.

If you can't get internet at the address and mobile broadband is no go you could always find an internet cafe somewhere. Or use the internet at the library, though you're sort of stuck if you need internet after the library closes which may be typically anywhere around 5/6pm or earlier on Saturdays.

We've used a 4g router for several years now when we go caravanning and usually get a more than adequate 25-30mbit/s (although it been as high as 85 and as low as 5-6 depending on the location). Last week we were in the middle of nowhere up in the Lake District and got a solid 26mbit/s.
If you can get a reasonable speed on your mobile phone then its worth exploring a 4G or 5G solution. 4G routers are now fairly cheap and unless you really want very fast speeds (assuming that you can get a 5G signal where you are) then its probably not worth the extra expense. As said above, you can take it with you and you don't need to sign up for a long term contract - I use a cheap paygo sim and just put a data boost when we go away (100Gb for £13 for our holiday last week with 1p Mobile).
