Admiral cancelled my travel insurance

hi,

I broke my leg earlier in the year (wasn't watching where I was going🫨) It's all healed now, am back to exercising and driving.

I saw the gp as the driving insurance wanted me to get their ok to drive. No worries there. However, because of my age the gp referred me for a dexa scan. Which is booked.

I then booked a holiday and called Admiral to let them know about the accident, and that I've recovered from the injury. I also told them I had a dexa scan planned but wouldn't get the results before going away.

After a couple of long phone calls, they informed me that they've cancelled my insurance, due to my new condition.

However, I've not been diagnosed with anything. If I told them I had osteoporosis diagnosed by the dexa scan, they'd just ask me to pay more and continue it. I'm fit, exercise regularly etc

This seams ridiculous to me. However, I'm not an insurance expert. Are they being reasonable? Will this affect future insurance agreements?

Staysure have given single trip cover. They aren't cheap but I needed cover sorted out quickly. Any recommendations for future travel insurance companies?

As soon as you are under investigation for a medical issue travel insurance can be difficult to find.

Whilst you are going for test for one issue, they may find something else which needs further investigation. This is the risk main stream insurance companies are avoiding by not offering cover.

Once you add the words "waiting for" a lot of insurers throw up their hands in horror and either refuse to insure you or cancel the policy entirely as you've found.

And yes you would have to declare in the future that you have had travel insurance cancelled, assuming you are even asked it.

Many insurers won't provide any cover if you are 'under investigation' or 'awaiting results'. Others will either exclude anything potentially associated with the area under investigation or provide cover but at an increased cost.

Thanks for the replies. It seems unfair though, if not completely ridiculous 🤯 think I'll stick with single trip cover in future though.

    Thanks again

I came across someone who told her insurer that she was having a routine mammogram. No lump found just the normal screening but was still told that her cover for pre existing conditions was no longer available!

This is not true. It's not like home or car insurance where a cancelled policy needs to be declared. It's not one of the questions asked when applying for travel insurance.

I have never been asked about previous claims or cancellations when buying travel insurance.

Try a specialist insurer I use stay sure who cover my 3 conditions, hubbys 2 and my sons autism.

Thats why I added the words "assuming you are even asked it" because I certainly never have when applying.

Even with single trip cover, you are asked medical questions and have to declare conditions, treatments etc. It's no different than annual in that respect.

Most insurers will not insure someone waiting treatment or investigations. Some specialist medical based travel insurers may though.
