Easyjet 2 hour delay missed transfer

Hi

We arrived into our destination airport 2 hours delayed on our Easyjet flight. This wouldn't have been an issue except that we had paid for €5 bus tickets to get to the train station with the intention of getting to our destination by train with €3 train tickets. Our entire journey for 4 of us should have cost €24 (my daughter is under 12 so doesn't have to pay in Italy). Once we'd landed and cleared customs, we would have missed the final train of the day so had to use one of the airport taxis to get to our destination. This cost is €170. I contacted Easyjet to try and claim this back, but they stated that because we arranged this transport ourselves that we were not entitled to claim. I'm just curious as all of our travel was arranged ourselves (our flights were flight only). Is this the case or am I able to claim for the cost of the taxi as the delay meant we had no other way of getting to our destination?

Sorry to say the airline has no responsibility for your additional costs. If the delay had been over 3 hours you might well have had a claim that would have covered the cost of the taxi but there is nothing for shorter delays

Easyjet were contracted to get you to the destination airport - no further.

As said there is nothing for delays under 3 hours (and even then the reason for the delay needs to be within the airlines control - not ATC/weather etc)

It is always a risk relying on late public transport….many stories recently of those stuck for long times at passport control on arrival that miss onward transport even when flight arrived on time.

Might be worth checking your travel insurance policy but depending on excess (usually per person) it may not be worth it

I would just forget and not let it spoil memories of the holiday.

I concur with the replies already made by @Alan_Bowen and @Caz3121.

Delays can be frustrating and can throw onward travel plans out. It is always a good idea to have back up plans and flexible ticket options if on a DIY type trip. There is no recourse to EasyJet for your extra onward transfer costs.
