July Energy Increases are enormous.
Just had an email from B Gas saying energy costs are going up soon.
Looking at the increase in my projected annual bill this is going up by 27% !
Analysing this, the gas is the dominating factor with an increase of 17% in the unit rate with electricity unit cost only going up by 6% !
The standing charges are hardly changing.

Simple arithmetic: if the largest increase is in the gas unit rate, and that is 17 per cent, then it is not possible for your projected annual bill to rise by 27 per cent. Perhaps for some reason they expect you to consume more energy next year?

Yes I recently submitted new readings and I am indeed using more energy. As I age I find a need to keep warmer !

If the standing charges are standing still and the kWh unit rates are increasing by 17% & 6% what is driving the total to increase by 27%?

Just needing to use more gas to keep warm as I age !

If you're using more gas, you'd expect to be paying more.

Is the increase in the amount the OP has to pay monthly recovering underpayment?

Home insulation?
In fairness, you cannot blame BG for that.0 -
O/P is not far out as regards total electricity and gas SVR increases from 1 July. or indeed E increase.
National average increases shown in screenshot.

I still pay on receipt of bill !
I don't provide my own readings frequently so they don't always reflect my change in usage but I always check back that the previous estimates are not exorbitant when I do.
If my gas consumption goes up by just 8.5 % over a year then with a 17% increase in the unit cost as forecast in July, my projected annual spend on gas will go up by 27%.

That's potentially costing you 7-8% extra, compared to paying by direct debit.
